Overall assessment
It's been a great season for the Youth Academy, but what I remember most is the skill and work atmosphere that reigned throughout the season, both among the players and the coaches. The Youth Academy staff, symbolized by these coaches, did a good job throughout this year. Regarding our operations, our beliefs surrounding our working groups are starting to become certainties, although we should never have too many. The Future group, which brings together players from the pre-training program and new arrivals, is important from a socio-educational perspective, to provide a solid foundation. The Training group, meanwhile, allows for work over several years between the U17 and U19 levels. We know that this daily, weekly work is essential. If it's done well, we can then look at the results. This year, they're interesting and validate the weeks. Especially since we've been able to play young throughout this season.
Kévin De Jésus's Future Group
Talking about this group first gives me the opportunity to emphasize the importance of the Football School and the pre-training program. The Football School isn't based at the Sports Center, but we have a strong relationship with Patrick Liogier, its manager, and all of his coaches. The U16s had a great season (2nd place, best defense, one game remaining) with a good squad that brings together diverse profiles. The blend of local players from the pre-training program and those who arrived over the summer was successful. These players also had a good World Cup in Montaigu last month, without any qualms, just with the desire to experience it and exist together. Finishing third, with the cherry on top of beating their neighbor in the third-place playoff, is positive.
David Le Moal and Frédéric Dugand's Training Squad
The work has been consistent throughout the year with David (Le Moal), who was able to quickly understand his squad and each player's personalities. After largely dominating the U17 National Championship (first with a 10-point lead over the runner-up, second-best attack, best defense), we faced Strasbourg in the playoff quarterfinals. A very strong opponent, who, even if you can't always anticipate everything with the youth team, can take the label of favorite for the national championship title. More generally, it's been a good season, but these players are still U17s. We must remain calm and vigilant regarding these young players. Some still have it in them and shouldn't be satisfied with this exercise. There will be a quick reassessment since most of them will be switching and starting the summer in the Reserve squad, with a more mature football style. It will be a new challenge for them, and they will have to show they are ready.
The U19 National Championship is never easy. First of all, the top-performing U19s are often forced to play in the Reserves from one weekend to the next. When some U17s moved up to participate in this U19 competition, they were able to deliver. The U18s, for their part, remained focused and never gave up on this championship, even when they were within striking distance of qualifying. This allowed them to put together this great run and take the lead in the championship. Of course, we're frustrated that their performance was penalized by an administrative decision. We have to accept this sanction. But we remember the sporting performance (first in the regular season, without the sanction), which also came about thanks to the confidence gained by this generation that reached the semi-finals of the U17 National Championship last year and the great spirit of this group.
The Gambardella Cup
It's a huge frustration... but it's still a cup match. Maybe we're expecting too much... But we need to find the right formula, a different approach. It's been a disappointment for some time. It's an area for improvement for the entire training center next season, because even if we're satisfied with our season, this competition is a great showcase that has an impact on the outside world.
Sylvain Gibert's Reserve Team
National 3 is complicated, especially in this Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes group. It's a real challenge for young players, which, complemented by the Challenge Espoirs for the professional reserves, has proven to be a very educational experience. The Reserve team has progressed throughout the season, with a squad that has matured and found the rhythm of this adult championship. Players born in 2006 and 2007 have joined this team, but I won't forget the players born in 2004 and 2005, who have truly played the role of big brothers. These four generations have evolved well together to achieve this survival (8th place in Group I).
Additional reasons for satisfaction
There's our evaluation grid, but also the external evaluation that selects and assesses the presence of our players in the national team. Paul Eymard and Djylian N'Guessan are currently at the U17 Euro, Nadir El Jamali and Luan Gadegbeku will be with the U18s for a tournament in Geneva, Nathan Kasia will fly with the U16s to Japan, while Mylan Toty played in the Montaigu World Cup with France. We can also mention Ayman Aiki with the U20s. On a national level, it's good to have this recognition. We can also mention our relationship with Loïc (Perrin), Eirik (Horneland), and his entire staff. They are very open to these young players, interested in their abilities. For us, the coaches, this desire to integrate them is positive. The Greens' coach also demands positive energy and our youngsters must at least transmit this when they manage to join the professional squad.
